Who am I?

I’m a Perth-based orthopaedic surgeon. I attended a local state school, completed my medical degree in WA, then undertook specialist training in Perth and Melbourne and subspecialty training in Europe.

Now 20 years into my career, I believe I am well-equipped to represent the breadth of Avant’s membership having become a:

  • Senior partner of a thriving group private practice
  • Co-founder of a not-for-profit research institute
  • Provider of public healthcare and medical education at a tertiary teaching hospital.

In addition, I am:

  • Actively involved in various local, national and international committees
  • Completing the Australian Institute of Company Directors course
  • An associate professor at the University of Western Australia
  • Director of Training and Accreditation Committee member for the Australian Orthopaedic Association specialist training program
  • Founder of the Perth Knee Fellowship.

I thrive in challenging circumstances and like to think critically, looking for opportunities to improve both processes and outcomes. I have been endorsed by the current Board of Avant.

Why am I standing for the Avant Board?

For me, it’s about service and representation.

I’m keen to serve the medical community and believe that Avant is a great place to do that. Avant has consistently added value to my medical career, aiding my practice growth and helping me navigate some difficult situations that many of us begin to face as we gain seniority. I’ve gained enough experience to make a meaningful contribution and haven’t lost my enthusiasm for clinical practice. I’m still an on-the-ground doctor who loves treating patients.

I’m also an orthopaedic specialist from Perth. I believe I will be a great addition to the board to bring in representation for WA.

Why should you vote for me?

If elected to the Board, my goals would be to:
Maintain a member-first culture, ensuring Avant continues to provide you with outstanding guidance and support
Represent a broader range of Australian clinicians from across Australia
Keep premiums low
